By the seat of my pants!

Those of you who have visited in our home know that you can’t go very far without encountering steps or stairs. This is quite a dilemma when you are already weak and then have to drag your body around on crutches. Since my heel bone is broken, I cannot put any weight at all on my foot and won’t be able to for several weeks. The crutches are seldom used as we have discovered that a walker is much more stable and easier to maneuver, although it has to be turned sideways to get through most doorways. But this didn’t help the stairway situation at all. It is quite a process that we have developed and one that is not tackled alone. I carefully sit down then slide my bottom down each step until I reach the bottom, at which point a family member is waiting with the walker they have already carried down and a helping hand to pull me up. It is quite a sight! Fortunately, I have several pair of capris that fit over my cast, but I never imagined that I would have to worry about wearing out the seat of my pants!

We’re grateful for the use of a walker and wheelchair (for journeys to the doctor) that we were able to borrow from a friend who was recently seriously ill. His recovery has progressed to the point these items were no longer needed and he was very happy to see them go.

So how am I really doing? Today I’m feeling good, but there were low points over the weekend. I just have to let the tears flow and then the most amazing thing happens – a note, an email, a phone call or a visit from a friend – a hug from my Heavenly Father!
